Fujairah, U.A.E. — The new Vela Marine’s Al-Butain Star, was visited by Khalid A. Falih, Saudi Aramco’s executive vice president of Operations, on March 13 at Fujairah anchorage, on her way back from Ras Tanura, loaded with more than two million barrels of Saudi Aramco’s crude oil.
President & CEO of Vela, Saleh K’aki, along with Vela management, accompanied the vessel on this trip. The vessel’s captain and senior officers welcomed them and took them on a tour of the bridge. Vela’s safety officer, illustrating Vela safety achievements, gave a presentation, which showed that Vela had the best safety year in history - 2007. This was followed by a visit to the engine room and the cargo control room. When the tour ended at the ship’s main control room, management met all the crew members. The visit ended with the presentation of a memorial gift to the vessel’s crew, emphasizing the importance of safety to Saudi Aramco’s management and to Vela.
The vessel is now underway and expected to discharge at LOOP, USG by the end of April.
