Janah Star Launching Ceremony

OKPO, Republic of Korea — Vela International Marine Ltd.’s Janah Star, the fifth of six very large crude carriers ordered from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, entered service Dec. 18 after a naming ceremony at the South Korean shipyard.

Dawood M. Al-Dawood, Saudi Aramco’s executive director of Marketing, Supply and Joint Venture Coordination, presided over the ceremony, attended by more than 50 guests, including Daewoo Shipbuilding senior executive vice president and chief production officer W.K. Ki; Vela's Tanker Construction manager Dr. Majid Al-Sani; and Korea Tanker Construction manager Abdulaziz Sabri.

The new vessel is built to the latest shipbuilding rules and regulations and to Vela's standards of safety, reliability and the environment to ensure the reliable transportation of Saudi Aramco’s crude oil to its customers.
